Overview

Since 1916, Danis has built a legacy rooted in integrity, driven by innovation, and inspired by the vision of our clients. We’re committed to hiring the best and brightest in the industry—people who share our passion for excellence and our dedication to building the future.

Are you looking for more than just cookie-cutter layout work? In this role as a Project Surveyor at Danis, you'll be at the heart of the construction process—bridging field and office operations with hands-on layout across structural, architectural, and all major disciplines. You’ll perform critical scanning and layout tasks, identify design issues early, and help initiate RFIs that keep the project on track.

As a key member of the survey team partnering closely with VDC, you won’t be working in isolation. You’ll be fully integrated into the project team, helping bring the building to life from the ground up. Your days will blend on-site investigation with technical analysis—an ideal role for someone who thrives on variety, enjoys solving problems, and excels at being the connector that keeps construction teams moving forward.

Responsibilities

As a Project Surveyor at Danis, you’ll:

  • Lead layout for site control, elevations, building grids, deep foundations, footings, walls, columns, decks, embeds, sleeves, boxouts, floor elevations, and anchor bolts, ensuring precise execution across civil and structural scopes.
  • Conduct topographic surveys, 3D scans, QA/QC checks, and other critical measurements to support project accuracy.
  • Manage and execute layout responsibilities, including control setup, prioritization of requests, and record-keeping, ensuring efficiency and minimizing rework.
  • Maintain up-to-date data files, spreadsheets, as-builts, layout time logs, and drawing revisions, enabling fast, informed decision-making.
  • Train and delegate layout tasks to Project Engineers, Co-ops, Foremen, and Superintendents while promoting the effective use of robotic total stations and new technology.
  • Oversee daily survey crew operations and coordinate closely with Superintendents to align layout with evolving schedules and site needs.
  • Collaborate with Surveying and VDC departments as needed, supporting startup control and assisting on cross-project initiatives.
  • Perform routine equipment checks and maintenance, including pegging auto levels and managing servicing schedules.
  • Provide subcontractors with verified control points in accordance with contract requirements.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • As needed, assist the Danis Surveying team on other projects based on company priorities and resource planning.

Qualifications

Skills and Abilities:

  • Proficient in operating builder’s levels, total stations, 3D scanners, AutoCAD, and Autodesk Point Layout software.
  • Familiarity with Topcon Positioning Systems and Robotic Total Stations (RTS); must have working knowledge of and experience with Trimble or equivalent systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications, and stay current with drawing revisions, bulletins, and RFIs.
  • Strong understanding of company operations, industry practices, construction standards, and their direct impact on project success.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams.
  • Strong organizational and planning abilities, with attention to detail and follow-through.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Surveying, or a related field; or NSPS/CST Certificate.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in building construction and site surveying, preferably on large-scale projects.
  • Proven experience managing daily surveying operations in a fast-paced construction environment.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

This role involves a combination of fieldwork and office-based responsibilities, with much of their time spent on active construction sites. Candidates must be comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions and physically demanding environments.

  • Local travel by automobile is required; occasional extended hours may be necessary based on project demands.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl for extended periods.
  • Physical requirements include climbing ladders and scaffolds, maintaining balance, and handling tools and materials.
  • Must have acceptable vision (with or without correction) and the ability to lift 50 pounds repetitively to meet the physical demands of the construction environment.

 Why You’ll Love Working Here:

  • You’ll lead meaningful work that impacts every structure we build.
  • You’ll collaborate with dedicated teams that take pride in craftsmanship and precision.
  • You’ll have access to training, professional development, and technology that support continuous growth.
  • You’ll join a company that values trust, teamwork, and doing things right — every time.
