The Drywall Foreman plays a key role in leading and coordinating crews responsible for the installation and finishing of drywall systems on commercial projects. This position fosters a culture of urgency, quality workmanship, efficiency, and a strong commitment to jobsite safety.

Responsibilities

Duties:

 

  • Planning and Communication (expectations, plans, goals, results, etc., ongoing)
  • Coordinate with the Superintendent, Project Manager, and Production Manager to pre-plan drywall phases.
  • Ensure timely delivery of drywall materials and related supplies to maintain crew productivity.
  • Act as a working foreman, assigning, assisting, and collaborating with crew members on all assigned tasks.
  • Direct the installation of drywall systems, including hanging, taping, mudding, sanding, and patching.
  • Guide crews in the installation of metal framing, acoustic ceilings, and insulation as applicable.
  • Review and interpret project documents and shop drawings effectively.
  • Accurately lay out work using appropriate tools and techniques.
  • Determine with the Superintendent the proper sequence of drywall installation and finishing tasks.
  • Perform other similar or related duties as requested or assigned.
  • Review cost reports and assist with project audits as needed.
  • Coordinate with warehouse management for the delivery and maintenance of equipment used on-site.

Additional Responsibilities:

 

  • Assist in the training and orientation of new employees when necessary.
  • Mentor apprentices and crew members in drywall techniques and safety practices.
  • Participate in the hiring process when requested.
  • Encourage teamwork and positive communication on-site.
  • Attend and contribute to jobsite meetings by sharing knowledge and addressing job-related issues.
  • Maintain a strong sense of urgency and focus among field staff to meet project timelines.

Skills and Abilities:

 

  • High-level drywall installation and finishing skills.
  • Familiarity with layout and measuring tools specific to drywall and framing.
  • Competent in reading blueprints and understanding wall assemblies, dimensions, and finish levels.
  • Basic math and geometry skills, including calculating surface area for materials estimation.
  • Ability to read and follow safety guidelines and tool usage manuals.
  • Clear verbal communication with co-workers and project leadership.
  • Strong time management and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to lead and motivate teams effectively.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations and a commitment to jobsite safety practices.
  • Critical thinking and decision-making ability in real-time jobsite situations.
  • Reliable and punctual with consistent jobsite attendance.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

 

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of hands-on drywall experience in commercial construction, with at least 2 years in a leadership or supervisory role.
  • Experience in reading blueprints, managing crews, and coordinating schedules with project teams.
  • Formal vocational training or completion of an apprenticeship program in drywall or a related trade preferred.
  • OSHA 10 or 30 certification preferred (or willingness to obtain upon hire).
 
Additional Requirements:
  • Pass a pre-employment drug test
  • Have reliable transportation

Working Conditions and Physical Demands: 

 

Work is often performed outside under any type of weather conditions. Exposure to varying degrees/amounts of heat, cold, dust, dampness, ice, precipitation and mud. Must be able to: Climb and maintain balance on scaffolds and ladders; Use arms and hands to reach for, handle, and manipulate objects and materials; Lift and carry objects up to 50 pounds repetitively to meet the physical demands of our industry. Stand or walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl for long periods of time. Must have acceptable vision (either naturally or with correction).
